What is "barnyard" in wine anyway?🗣️🍷
Overcome your wine tasting anxiety forever with this audio guide to wine faults and flaws. Speaking of barnyard, an outspoken creature with hooves would like to discuss your "dignity."
“What are they even talking about?” Let’s be honest, wine people speak their own language. But we’re not keeping it a secret. Hear THE interview on wine faults and flaws. And get your link to the first Newsletter Drinker exclusive (hee haw.)
This is a photo of Dr. Rachel B. Allison, the wine flavor expert we were so very proud to feature in a two part series on the Modo di Bere podcast.
If you missed part one, it’s all about the mysterious art of blind tasting.
In part two, Dr. Allison lists and describes in detail every “off” flavor or aroma you should be checking for as you taste that first sip at your restaurant table while the sommelier and your fellow diners all stare at you. Then she explains the science of exactly what those flavors are how they got there, whether it’s the same bacteria responsible for stinky baby carrots or the funky yeast that can make your glass of red give off unfortunate flavors of “corn chip.”

I was seeing a band at Mama Tried, one of my favorite bars in Brooklyn, when I ran into Mitch Rackin. Mitch is an audio engineer who recorded one of the sessions for my album The Sewing Room. I hadn’t seen Mitch in a long time, and I was proud to tell him that I’d picked up some audio engineering skills for this podcast that I launched. When I explained it’s inspired by Italian wines and dialect, he said, “I’ve got somebody you need to meet.”
Mitch had just finished recording an album by Sicilian American folk singer Michela Musolino. I wrote to Michela and soon we were recording the conversation I titled “Wine Makes Blood,” which became Season 1 Episode 7 of the Modo di Bere podcast. I played several of Michela’s Sicilian songs on the episode. Her voice gave me chills when……..

I’ll give you one more block quote from the piece because it makes me chuckle.
I can hear his accent like a song just thinking about his paean to the noble ass:
Hold your donkeys more tightly than your dignity, and have a wonderful weekend.
